Plagiarism and Fanfiction
It’s just words, right? I can steal your words and characters because it’s fanfiction. I can bully and harass because I took your work right? I have higher stats because I lied about everything, but it’s fanfiction so it’s totally cool, right?
Plagiarism is "the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."[1] That is, both imitation (or outright copying) and failure to be truthful about that imitation are necessary attributes to call it plagiarism. It is possible to copy or imitate openly without quoting the original work word for word (pastiche, parody, satire, homage); it is the lie (of commission or omission) about sourcing that makes it plagiarism. (Fanmakes and related tropes such as songfics are often put into this category.) - Fanlore: Plagiarism

Box 1:
I have a nearly 400 page document detailing user: MrsFizzle plaguairizing my Autumn in Philadelphia series for her story Reunification.
I prefer not to make the google doc link public but will send it via PM if that's okay with the mods.
I just want to update this: MrsFizzle was suspended on another FF site for harassment, and she continued on other sites. She created alts and got readers to help in this in an attempt to get the link.
